GRS Told To Address Hike In Vegetable Prices Immediately

KOTA KINABALU : The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration has been taken to task over their failure to find solutions and address rising vegetable prices in the state.

Warisan Vice President, Datuk Junz Wong on Monday said, he had received several complaints from vegetable sellers around the city centre and Penampang, and had a dialogue session with them.

“A quick look at why vegetable prices have increased drastically, even for locally grown produce is due to GRS’s failure.”

“GRS simply has no idea and no clue on how to manage and administer the state.”

Junz added, the prices of fertilisers have increased tremendously, yet the situation was not properly managed by the state government.

“Normal fertilisers have increased from RM98 per 50kg to RM180 per 50kg.

“That’s about 100% increment.

“Natural fertiliser from chicken manure has also increased to RM4.00 per bag from RM2.50 per bag previously, on top of an additional RM0.50 for transportation fees.

“So how can prices of vegetables and fruits not increase as well, when locally grown produce are equally affected by the cost of planting? Similarly with imported produce,” he stressed.

Junz who is also Tanjung Aru State Assemblyman warned GRS to address the issue immediately, or else face the wrath of Sabahans in the coming elections.

“A very bad job in monitoring has led to an uncontrolled challenging situation for all local farmers. And worse, GRS does not know what to do to address this issue.

“Ultimately the people of Sabah are suffering badly.

“GRS and BN must buck up and put their feet on the ground, start tackling people’s issues or face the wrath of the people in the coming General Elections,” Junz said.
