PENAMPANG – Some 500 awareness flyers have been distributed to residents of Lido area recently, in a combined effort by the Kepayan Task Force (KTF), Penampang Member of Parliament office, and Bersih Sabah.

The idea behind the move is to make them aware of their rights as voters, especially since the Election Commission has moved out some 3,641 voters from the Kepayan constituency to neighbouring Luyang.

“The response from the Lido residents has been overwhelming,” said Penampang PKR chief, Kenny Chua, who is also the Kepayan Task Force chairman.

“Most of the residents who are also voters were not happy with being shifted to Luyang. They would prefer to vote under the parliament constituency of P174 Penampang and DUN Kepayan.

He said the voters agreed that the EC move is merely a dirty game plan in the effort of the Barisan Nasional ruling government to try and recapture the Kepayan State seat now held by DAPs Dr Edwin Bosi.

“We have seen such an exercise been used by the BN Government in many areas and it has proven to be vital. Lido voters must not allow such evil kind of tactics being applied to fool them.

“Being very strong opposition supporters, Lido must come out and stand for their rights by signing up the petition that would be launched on Friday,” said Kenny.

He thus urged the voters not to take the government’s reasoning that the shifting exercise is by virtue that Lido is under the administrative of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and not im the District of Penampang.

For the record, few other areas under DUN Kepayan were actually divided under the administrative of DBKK and Penampang District Council (PDC).

Kenny believed Lido voters will not allow BN government to influence them by the EC’s proposal.

PKR Penampang will open up a booth for the Signature Drive Campaign at a coffee shop next to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet on Friday (7 October) from 8am – 2pm, Saturday (8 October) from 8am – 3pm and Sunday (9 October) 8am – 3pm.

“We would also like to encourage all the residents to check their voting stations with us during those three days. We were told by few of the people we met during our house to house walk about that they were shocked to know that they had been transferred to another voting district without their agreement,” he added.

“Other than that, we would also open up counter for new voter registration.”
