KOTA KINABALU – Police have arrested four suspects and seized two pistols, and in the process busted “Geng Didi”, said to be involved in an armed robbery, attempted ATM theft and two ATM explosions in Membakut and Putatan.
Sabah Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chief SAC Datuk Salehuddin Abdul Rahman said that three of the suspects, aged 23 to 31, were arrested at a workshop in Taman Mewah, Kolombong on Friday night at about 9.43pm.
“The arrests were made following investigations into an armed robbery at a mini market in Luyang on December 27,” Salehuddin said Saturday.
He said that during the robbery, three workers at the mini market reported being robbed by two masked and armed men and took away two cash register machines from the store.
He added that the two suspects ran away with a Proton Saga. However, the witnesses were not able to ascertain the type of weapons and the car plate number used by the suspects.
“A task force was then set up by the city police Crime Investigation Division (CID) and based on intelligence, a raiding team raided the workshop in Kolombong,” he added.
Salehuddin said that during the raid, police also found a Styer 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with 10 9mm bullets which was holstered on the waist of the 26-year-old suspect.
He added that police also seized a Toyota Vios that was used by the 26-year-old suspect.
“Further interrogations led to the discovery of another pistol, a Smith and Wesson 0.38 revolver, four bullets and one bullet casing that was hidden in the 26-year-old suspect’s house in Kampung Muhibbah, Putatan,” he said.
