KOTA KINABALU: Jannie Lasimbang, the DAP candidate for Kapayan, will contest GE14 after all after she was cleared of all charges under the Peace Assembly Act 2012.

The Magistrate’s Court here Thursday freed the former Sabah Bersih 4.0 chairperson Lasimbang from the four charges under the PPA 2012.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus acquitted and discharged Jannie Lasimbang after the magistrate ruled that the defence had cast doubt on the prosecution’s case.

Jannie was represented by counsel Ram Singh.

Two days earlier, Jannie had made an appeal for prayers as her candidacy hung in the balance.

The charges framed under Section 9 (5) of the PAA 2012 are punishable by a fine of up to RM10,000, upon conviction. And in the event that I shall be fined for RM2,000 and above, I shall be disqualified to stand in the general elections.
