AN APPEAL: This is a call I am making to all peace-loving Malaysians, especially those in the State of Sabah, to stand in solidarity with me against the unjust and corrupt Barisan Nasional regime that is using all forms of unfair, unjust and unclean tactics against the Opposition in the current GE14.
I am now in a dilemma.
I have been earmarked by the DAP party leadership to stand for the Kayayan state seat of Kapayan in Sabah. As you all know, Nomination Day is April 28, the day when we are supposed to officially submit names to stand for the elections.
My dilemma is that just two days prior to that, the Magistrate’s Court in Kota Kinabalu is scheduled to give judgement to an Appeal made by the prosecution against my acquittal from two principal charges under Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012.
The charges framed under Section 9 (5) of the PAA 2012 are punishable by a fine of up to RM10,000, upon conviction. And in the event that I shall be fined for RM2,000 and above, I shall be disqualified to stand in the general elections. That is the danger I face.
This crucial timing is certainly not by chance. I see it as part and parcel of the overall evil design of the BN regime to suppress the Opposition and to bar as many credible Opposition leaders from standing as candidates in the GE14.
This is another example of the BN’s abuse of power to suppress the Opposition. This is foul play and totally unclean. United with all Malaysians who treasure and respect democratic rights, I strongly protest against such an act of suppression and oppression.
I call all Malaysians to pray with me that the Magistrate will make a decision that is fair and just, and will not bow down to pressure from anyone.
Whatever the outcome of that ruling at the Magistrate’s Court on April 26, I shall abide by it and I call on all supporters and Malaysians in general to stand in solidarity against all acts of oppression against the Opposition and its leaders.
May I declare to the BN and its leaders who are heading for their downfall in the upcoming GE14, that they may be able to suppress a few of our leaders, but they cannot suppress the very strong fighting spirit of our struggle against their evil deeds.
Only Peace, Justice and true Democratic Rights shall prevail in the end.
