KOTA KINABALU: A delegation from the Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd, headed by the head plant facility manager, James Thiruchelvam made a courtesy visit to the office of the Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) Sabah director, Zulkifli Yahaya on 20th January.
The visit was aimed at sharing information and to listen to the view of DOSH with regards to improving the standard of Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) in the Lahad Datu-based eco-friendly technology palm oil manufacturing company.
“We have been busy doing internal housekeeping, identifying important gaps in current policy as well as continuously focusing to achieve significant OSH performance outcomes for the betterment of our employees.
“We are serious and committed to ensuring a safe and healthful workplace for our employees. It has been our priority and we will continue to do so with the help of DOSH Sabah to assist and share their knowledge and expertise,” he said.
According to Zulkifli, the agriculture sector (palm oil) is one of the highest contributors to occupational accident in the state.
“Palm oil industry is one of the major contributors to deaths at the workplace in Sabah. So, it is crucial for the employers to know that their responsibility is pivotal to maintain a safe and healthy workplace,” he said.
He added that employers need to prioritise the safety and health of workers and include OSH in the company project action plan.
Also present were the DOSH Sabah deputy director Arahman Jamel, DOSH Sabah assistant director, Elisa Eligius Samuel, Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd assistant plant manager, Daud Ahmad and several senior officials.
