Four Students Killed In Pitas Accident; Driver, Four Others Injured

PITAS: Three Form Six students, and one Fourth Former were killed, while five others escaped with injuries when the car they were travelling in to go to school along Jalan Kanibongan-Pitas, went out of control and landed in a ditch.

Three of the girls were said to have died at the scene of the incident while one more died later. Five others in the car were all boys.

The deceased have been identified as Sweeta Kongkoyan, 18, Batu 10 Lout, Pitas who died from head injuries while on the way to hospital. She was in Form 6 Lower of SMK Pitas II.

The other three who died at the scene of the accident were identified as Rebecca Stacey Saimon, 16, from Kg Narandan Pitas and a Form 4 student of SMK Pitas II, Dayang Munisah Bte Exon, 18, Kg Kadayan Pitas, and Evi Elsie Jukirim, 18, Kg Boribi Kanibongan.

An 18-year old male student, Mikhievinlee Lotijin, 18, of Kg Ranggal Pitas suffered severe head injuries.

The other injured students were identified as Aewinkafo Lawrence, 18, of Kg Mangkapon Pitas, Fairus Ejoy Marayau, 18, of Kg Limau Manis Kanibongan and Jaklin Johglin, 18, of Kg Tampakahu Pitas and Elden Elio of Kg Ranggal Pita.

Superintendent Mohd Izaan Abdullah, the Kota Marudu police chief confirmed four students had died, one is severely injured, while the rest were given outpatient treatment at the Pitas hospital.

It is understood that the nine students were in the car driven by one of them who had a licence, and were heading to their school, SMK Pitas 2 at about 6am.

The car hit a pothole, sending it careening to the side, before going off the road and into the ditch.

Other road users who saw the accident alerted police at about 6.30am.

The driver was among those who escaped with light injuries. All were sent to the district hospital.
