Floods: Two Temporary Shelters in Sabah Closed

KOTA KINABALU: Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sabah, namely the PPS at Dewan Mini Mesapol in Sipitang and Rumah Kelab Kompleks Sukan in Penampang were closed this evening after floodwaters in both areas subsided.

Sabah National Disaster Management Secretariat in a statement said PPS Dewan DSP DUN Banir in Beaufort remains open with 78 victims from 26 families are still placed at the shelter.

“The PPS at Kingfisher multipurpose hall in Kota Kinabalu is opened as a precautionary move following heavy rain and flooding in the district.

“Flooding occurred because of heavy rain on the west coast of Sabah over the past few days with the Meteorological Department saying that rain is expected to continue until today,” it said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said one landslide incident was reported in Kampung Buit Hill, Putatan this evening that affected one house.

“Sabah JBPM received a report at 3.02 pm and upon arrival found damages to the kitchen wall, living room wall and the bedroom wall,” it said, adding that no casualties were reported.

The operation ended at 3.34 pm.
