TAPAH: It was a sweet trip to victory for settlers of Felda Sahabat 3, Lahad Datu, Sabah, flying across the South China Sea to the Peninsula when they were named as the winner of the Keceriaan Kampung Felda Award (Most Beautiful Felda Village) in conjunction with the national-level 2020 Felda Settlers’ Day, here today.
For the past few years Felda Sahabat 3 was named as one of the finalists of the same award, but this year luck was on their side when they took home a cash prize of RM300,000 after being named as this year’s winner in the annual competition.
To make it even sweeter, they received the award from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the ceremony held at the Felda Trolak Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Sungkai, here today.
Felda Sahabat settlers’ head, General Linjal said that the key factors in their victory were the unique landscape, unity of the people and the cleanliness of the area.
“The victory is hoped to serve as a platform to further motivate other Felda settlements as the efforts will benefit the community”, he told Bernama.
He said that Felda Sahabat 3 was established in 1985 and currently has 188 families. It is well known for its agro-tourism activities including birds nest and homestay industries.
The contest also saw Felda Adela in Johor and Felda Raja Alias 4 in Negeri Sembilan named as the second and third winners, taking home cash of RM200,000 and RM100,000 respectively.
Other awards were also presented to winners in their respective categories, including Felda Kepis in Negeri Sembilan (achievement in increasing latex production award); Nor Shaiful A. Sampul, 48, of Felda Serting Hilir (achievement in increasing oil palm production award); and Mustapa Ab Llah of Felda Bukit Bading, Terengganu (Felda entrepreneur with highest income award).
