Expedite Takeover Of SESB – Warisan

KOTA KINABALU: Taking into account the rising incidents of power outages throughout the state, a Warisan leader urged the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government to expedite the takeover of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) from the federal government.

Warisan Kota Kinabalu Division Information Chief, Samuel Wong said Sabah urgently needs to have full control of SESB.

He has called on SESB to be more sensitive to consumers’ needs after receiving numerous complaints on frequent power disruptions in the state.

Samuel said he received complaints from residents of Taman Kingfisher, Lorong Raja Udang, Taman Iramanis and neighbourhoods at Iramanis area, amongst others.

“Power outages at these areas are serious, blackout occurs few days a week, and at least three to four hours a day.”

“Efforts by SESB to provide better services to consumers through maintenance works are very much appreciated, but we hope SESB can be more responsible and compassionate to consumers.”

“Frequent power supply disruptions caused much inconvenience to the people. Home electrical appliances were damaged due to frequent power cut.”

Samuel asserted that frequent power interruptions reduce productivity and this will subsequently affects the nation’s economy.

“Businesses who are trying to recoup their losses incurred during the pandemic, should not be further burdened with frequent power disruptions.

“Maintenance works carried out by SESB must be well organised and done effectively,” he concluded.
