LAHAD DATU: The series 3 of the Special Joint Operation (OBK) to eliminate criminal elements, including Abu Sayyaf terrorist groups and Daesh militants from gaining a foothold in the district, has detained 15 illegal immigrants in six villages in Felda Sahabat near here.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) director Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said in the OBK conducted Friday, the illegals who were all Filipinos, aged between 16 to 48, were arrested after they failed to produce valid personal documents when checked by the security forces.

“In the operation coordinated by Esscom, 450 individuals were checked in Kampung Tambisan, Kampung Long Patau, Kampung Lok Buani, Kampung Tanjung Labian Darat, Kampung Tanjung Batu and Kampung Tanjung Tegupi Laut,” he said in a statement here Friday.

Tanjung Labian Darat and Tanjung Batu were among the settlements where Malaysian security forces hunted down Sulu intruders four years ago in the now infamous Tanduo intrusion.

Wan Abdul Bari said two estate workers were also detained during the operation after they tested positive for syabu.

The Lahad Datu District Council had also demolished 93 illegal houses occupied by illegal immigrants at three other villages nearby.

He said the structures built on government land were demolished after notices were issued to the occupants.

Wan Abdul Bari said the operations were also aimed at detecting the presence of criminal elements and militants from southern Philippines who are trying to enter Sabah following the imposition of martial law in Mindanao.
