Driver Killed After Trailer Lorry Suffers Brake Failure

BELURAN: A trailer lorry driver was killed after the heavy vehicle skidded at Km115 Bukit Ular area, Jalan Nangoh, Paitan, yesterday.

Beluran district police chief Supt Kasim Muda said in the mishap that occurred at 6.40 pm, Johnaidi Pongotan, 36, was believed to have failed to have lost control of the wheels as the brakes failed to work at a bend.

“During the incident, the trailer lorry was transporting oil palm fruits from Oshpalm Pitas Estate to Sungai Ruku palm oil mill in Kinabatangan.

“The driver died at the scene due to severe head and bodily injuries,” he said in a statement here today.

The body was brought to Beluran Hospital for postmortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
