Death Toll From COVID-19 In Sarawak Reaches 88

KUCHING: Sarawak today recorded one more death from COVID-19, bringing the cumulative number of fatalities in the state due to the viral infection to 88 or 0.78 per cent of the positive cases reported.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said the 88th fatality was the 10,250th positive case, a 66-yar-old local male who was being  treated at Kapit Hospital for fatigue and cough.

“The RT-PCR test done on the patient at the hospital on March 1 found him to be positive for the virus. He also had aplastic anaemia comorbidity. His health condition deteriorated and he died on March 6,” it said.

Today, 252 COVID-19 new cases were detected in Sarawak, with 234 of these having no symptoms and 18 with symptoms, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 11,348. 

The districts which reported cases today were Sibu (149), Bintulu (23), Miri (17), Subis (13), Kuching and Mukah (seven each), Betong, Sarikei and Sebauh (six each), Kanowit and Kapit (five each), Julau and Meradong (two each), and Belaga, Beluru, Samarahan and Tatau (one each).
