Dead Infant Found In Garbage Dump

KOTA KINABALU: A Bakso seller’s daily chore of discarding his rubbish turned out to be anything but routine when he found a dead baby at a garbage dump in Inanam near here early this morning.

The 28-year-old man sensed something amiss when he noticed what looked like a doll in a wrapping and picked it up to check, only to discover what it was.

“The man immediately asked help from people nearby before the police were alerted,” said City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji.

He said the infant’s umbilical card was still attached to the body, adding the baby, a boy, weighed about four kilogrammes.

The body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for a postmortem.

Towards this end, Habibi called on the public to relay any information on the matter to the police immediately.
