KOTA KINABALU: The person behind Facebook profile “Danny Ooi” who has harrased Sabah MCA Wanita chief Dr Pamela Yong and several other women with online sexism is not related to any DAP leaders or the party itself, said DAP Luyang Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Phoong indicated that the irresponsible act has nothing to do with him just because he was in one of the photos in the Facebook profile.

In the same post, he also attached several screenshots of the sexism remarks made by “Danny Ooi” directed to Yong and other women on Facebook.

“Some netizens have tried to associate me with “Danny” as if his uncivilised act has something to do with me. I have to clarify that “Danny Ooi” is not related to any DAP leaders or the party itself.

“His profile has shown a picture that I was included in as it was taken during an open event that was organised by me to visit the Sabah State Assembly. The event was open to the public and anyone could have joined by registering,” he said.

Phoong, who is also the Minister of Youth and Sports, added that all kinds of sexual harassment against women must be rejected and that political stances must be put aside on matters like this.

He said, he has contacted Yong to convey his solidarity and that “Danny Ooi” should apologise publicly for his misconducts.

Meanwhile, Phoong said he agreed with DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng’s statement to condemn these wrongdoings by irresponsible netizens following the recent sexual harassments faced by DAP leaders Jamaliah Jamaluddin and Lim Yi Wei.

“As a young politician, I have always been trying to advocate for new politics. A new era where politics should be discussing about policies, national and international issues, ideologies and not the traditional dirty politics which creates hatred based on race, religion or gender.

“I still hold strongly to my beliefs and principles to continue to pursue for new politics. We shall move on and work harder to usher in new politics for our beloved nation. By then, we will build a better Sabah and Malaysia based on ideologies and policies,” he asserted.
