KOTA KINABALU: Eight people were nabbed by City police over suspicion of being involved in motorcycle theft cases and around the State capital of late.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 36, were all Sabahans, said Assistant Commissioner Chandra Muthu, the City police chief in a statement Wednesday.

He said they were picked up separately in seven raids conducted at the Inanam area here between Aug 22 and Sept 11 following two reports lodged in Feb and the latest on Sept 4.

ACP Chandra said one of the motorcycle owners lost his bike when he parked it at the Tugu Pekan Inanam while another lost his machine near a four-digit outlet in Kolombong.

“Six of them were tested positive for drugs,” said ACP Chandra. “We believe that with the arrest, we have solved eight cases around the district.

“During the raids, we confiscated three motorcycles, a motorcycle frame, three motorcycle engines, two handphones and a sling bag.”

The seizures were worth RM6,000.

“Owners must take extra care by installing security locks to prevent their motorcycles from being stolen and I advise them not park their machines in secluded areas,” he added.
