KOTA KINABALU – The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) is organising the Chinese New Year Carnival Talent Competition on the opening day of the Chinese New Year Carnival on this coming January 23, 2017.
To be held at the Padang Merdeka, the Talent Competition is only open for primary students from local Chinese schools and it has to be registered under the school.
Participants can only participate in a group of minimum three members and each student can only participate in the competition once.
Competition comprising of performing arts may include singing, folk art, dance, musical instruments, magic, acrobatics, diabolo, stage drama, cross talk, martial arts, rhythmic gymnastics and other stage performing arts.
If necessary, the participants can bring their own music or small props but they have to be arranged by teachers or parents on stage within one minute.
The Champion for this competition will be presented with cash reward of RM1000 and a trophy; the 1st Runner Up will be receiving cash reward of RM700 and a trophy; the 2nd Runner Up will take home RM400 and a trophy; 3rd Runner Up: Cash RM300 + a Trophy; Fifth Place: Cash RM200 + a Trophy.
There will also be Special Prize of RM100 + a Trophy for 10 winners.
In addition, each team member will receive a certificate of participation.

According to Tan, the said competition is among a number of open competitions for public participation which are part of the programs and activities arranged by the FCAS to usher in the Chinese Lunar New Year (Year of the Rooster).
The other programs include performance by local Chinese students, traditional Chinese cultural shows, and dragon and lion performances.
This 4-day carnival is being jointly organized by FCAS and City Hall (DBKK) from 23 – 26 January 2017 at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu.
The deadline of the registration is on or before 15th January 2017, and limited to the first 25 teams.
Judging Criteria is based on Creativity 25%; Formation 20%; Skills/Difficulty 25% and Team Work 30%.
