CHEF Liew Khin Vun of Tasty Kitchen, Airways, has come out with yet another specialty dish – this time it’s called the “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall Soup” which consists of 12 main ingredients.

Thrown into the pot are black chicken, sea cucumber, dry scallop, fish maw, Japanese mushroom, dry oyster, cordyceps, fish maw steam, pilose antler, ginseng and few more other additional ingredients.

“The blend of all items adds on the sweetness of the soup which makes it all the more tasty and flavourful. It is high in protein and calcium,” said Chef Liew.

‘Buddha Jumps Over the Wall’ soup, a specialty creation of Chef Liew.

This authentic dish, he claims, originated and existed during the period of Emperor Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912); the dish has been regarded as a Chinese delicacy for its rich taste, usage of various high-quality ingredients and the special manner of cooking.

The dish’s name is an allusion to its ability to entice the vegetarian monks from their temples to partake in the meat-based dish. Although monks are not allowed to eat meat, one of them, tempted, jumped over the wall.

Hence the name.
