KOTA KINABALU: Borneo Eco Film Festival (BEFF) is launching its BEFF365 programme this year with its first online film screening of Sharkwater: Extinction at 9pm on July 14.
The screening is in conjunction with Shark Awareness Day and will be held on BEFF’s website at www.beff.org.my
Award-winning film Sharkwater: Extinction is billed as an inspiring work of filmmaker Rob Stewart who exposes the massive illegal shark fin industry and the political corruption behind it — a conspiracy that is leading to the extinction of sharks.
This year’s line-up of films features both local and international award-winning films that highlight environmental and social issues, as well as the importance of biodiversity.
There are at least 10 films scheduled throughout the latter half of 2020 for viewers to enjoy. All for free.
Most of the documentaries will be screened online to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading the coronavirus during this pandemic.
In-person screenings may be held towards the end of the year; subject to safer conditions to conduct social gatherings.
BEFF365 is organised by the voluntary society, Melapi (Society for Holistic Outreach, Research and Environmental Action).
BEFF is supported by the state Tourism, Culture and Environment , Movies That Matter (MtM) and Shared Earth Foundation.
