Body Of Woman Found Floating Off Pulau Nunuyan Laut Sandakan

SANDAKAN – The body of a woman believed to be in her 20s was found floating off Pulau Nunuyan Laut near here, Thursday.

Her identity has not been ascertained. The remains were retrieved and brought back to the Sandakan MMEA base to be handed over to the police for further action.

Sandakan DM17 maritime director, Capt A. Razak Abd Rahman said local fishermen spotted what appeared to be a body in the sea and alerted a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency team conducting an ‘Op Pluto Timur’ in the area.

Based on the condition of the body, the woman is believed to have been in the water for more than two days.

Meanwhile, a boy is feared drowned after he fell into the deeper part of the river at Kg Gum-Gum Besar at about 1.30pm.

The boy, identified as 11-year-old Mohd Helmizan mohd Adizan, was swimming with a group of friends when he slipped and disappeared.

The friends, together with villagers, tried to rescue and search for the boy but to no avail.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Haikal Abdullah said a team of rescuers was sent to the scene following a distress call at 1.57pm.

“Search and rescue efforts are ongoing,” he said.
