Body of Two-Year-Old Drowned Sandakan Boy Found Near Pulau Bai

SANDAKAN: The body of a two-year-old boy was found oating by villagers early this morning after he was believed to have fallen off the verandah of his Pulau Bai water village home near here yesterday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sandakan Zone director, Captain Zainudin Mohd Zuki, said the body of Mohamad Fairul Iman Fairus was seen oating about one nautical mile north of the island at about 6.30 am.

He said the body was sent to the victim’s family for identication.

“Kota Kinabalu Maritime Sub Rescue Centre had activated the search and rescue (SAR) mission at 6 pm on July 9 after the authorities were alerted to the incident.

“The SAR operation was divided into ve sectors involving 27 square nautical miles, involving ve assets from MMEA, police, Navy, Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Force.

Zainudin said the victim’s body was brought to Sandakan post oce jetty and handed over to the police for further action.
