Barisan Nasional Retains Kimanis Seat

KIMANIS: Barisan Nasional (BN)’s candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin retained the Kimanis parliamentary by-election with a majority of 2,029.

Official results released by Election Commission (EC) showed that Alamin managed to garner a 12,706-vote over Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan)’s Datuk Karim Bujang who obtained 10,677 votes.

The official results were announced at the vote tallying centre at Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Dun Banir in Beaufort, on Saturday night.

The candidates relied on 79.9 percent voter turnout, translating it 29,664 voters, polling in 19 centres involving 70 polling streams to decide the fate.

In the 14th General Elections (GE14), Datuk Seri Anifah Aman won the Kimanis seat by a slim 156-vote majority in a three-cornered-contest.

Anifah polled 11,942 votes while Karim tailed with 11,786 votes. Parti Harapan Rakyat’s Jaafar Ismail obtained 1,300 votes.

The Election Court however had on Dec 2 last year declared Anifah’s win in Kimanis in GE14 as null and void. The seat was then declared vacant.
