LABUAN: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah officiated the opening of the Kompleks Anak Yatim dan Asnaf Darul Kifayah here today.
The complex which cost RM26 million to build and belongs to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has been in operations since January 2018.
The complex which houses orphans and asnaf (poor and needy) is equipped with hostels, sports courts, prayer rooms and multipurpose hall.
The King said with these facilities, the complex should also ensure the success of the orphans’ positive personality traits.
“We need to make sure that the complex is able to equip orphans with the necessary religious input in preparation for their future,” he said at the event’s opening ceremony.
Al-Sultan Abdullah also called on Islamic centres and tahfiz schools throughout the country to adhere to security aspects.
“There have been reports of tahfiz centres burnt down and we hope such incidents will not recur,” he said.
The Darul Kifayah complex located in Tanjung Taras is capable of accommodating 200 orphans from Sabah and Sarawak within a 2.35ha area.
