272 cattle from Sabah, Labuan for ‘ibadah Korban’

LABUAN: At least 272 head of cattle are expected to be sacrificed in Labuan in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration today, according to Labuan Department of Veterinary Services director Dr Marysia James Abie.

She said the cattle for sacrifice comprised 103 cows from Sabah, and 157 cows and 12 buffaloes from Sittha Farm in Kg Bukit Kuda here.

Dr Marysia said the cattle from Sabah were brought into the island by 43 applicants who had been given a permit by the department to do so.

“We have checked the health status of all the cattle a week before the slaughtering, which is in accordance with the animal health standard. They are safe for slaughtering,” she told Bernama today.

Veterinary officers have been assigned to all approved slaughtering locations like at mosques and villages, besides the designated slaughtering house in Kg Patau-Patau to ensure the standard operating procedure (SOP) is strictly adhered to.

She advised mosque and village committees to comply with the SOP to curb the spread of COVID-19.
