SIBU – A 15-door longhouse in Sungai Tunoh, Bukit Mabong was destroyed in a fire at about 3.30pm Wednesday.

However, Bernama learnt that no casualties were reported and that due to communication difficulties, the incident was only notified by the longhouse headman Tanik Kudi to Kapit community leader, Penghulu Steward Sawing at around 5.30pm.

Steward, when contacted by BERNAMA, said the headman had to make a 30-minute journey in a four-wheel drive vehicle to SK Sungai Tunoh to call him via telephone.

He said details were sketchy but there were no casualties.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Fire and Rescue assistant director of operations Farhan Sufyan Borhan told Bernama that they had been notified of the fire and that due to the remoteness of the longhouse, fire and rescue personnel from the Kapit Fire station would be making a boat journey to the location at first light Thursday to assess the situation.
