Visually Impaired Muhd Fiqry Does Tuaran Proud In Quran Recital

TUARAN: A visually-handicapped participant, Muhammad Fiqry Muhammad Fahmi, beat seven other contestants to win the Qari category of the West Coast South Quran Recital Competition held at the Dewan Seri Sulaman here, Thursday.

Fiqry, 21, from Tamparuli and representing Tuaran, defeated contestants from Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Papar and a fellow contestant from Tuaran, Afizan Hj Wangkee, who won second place.

Mohd Saiful Azlan Yazid of Putatan and Muhammad Hanif Ahmad of Kota Kinabalu took 3rd and 4th places respectively.

The competition was officiated by Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor who also gave away the prizes.

Meanwhile, in the Qariah section, Kalsum Nurul Umayrah Hj Abd Marif of Putatan beat six other contestants to be the champion.

In second place was Naskina Kusmady representing Kota Kinabalu and third, Faridah Ag Tangah ofPap ar.

The winners will represent Sabah’s West Coast South at the State-level Quran Recitation contest soon.

Present was Tuaran District Officer AM Ibnu AK Baba who is also the organising chairman.

Also present were Tamparuli community development leader Datuk Jahid Jahim and Tuaran District Education Officer, Puan Tah Nia Hj Jeman.
