Unidentified Person Dies After Car Catches Fire Pre-Dawn Tuesday

PENAMPANG: An unidentified person was burnt to death when a Proton Saga FLX caught fire along Jalan Donggongon-Penampang early Tuesday morning.

The car is registered to a man said to be living in Likas. (Name known to BorneoToday).

He was found dead in the driver’s seat, according to sources.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received the distress call at 4.43am and reached the scene seven minutes.

They managed to put out the fire shortly after and discovered the charred remains of a person.

No details of the victim were provided and the Bomba spokesman said the case has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.

About 80 per cent of the car was burnt before BOMBA managed to put out the fire.

In TAMPARULI, a 50-year old man, Pairo @ Gadili Salagan, was lucky to be alive as villagers rescued him after the Toyota Hilux he was driving got swept away by swift currents at Kg Poturidong, near here.

In the 5.40pm incident on Monday, Pairo was said to be attempting to cross the river on his way home when the 4×4 vehicle got carried away.

He was fortunate that villagers nearby saw the incident and helped rescue him.

The Bomba team later towed the vehicle out of the river.

In KOTA MARUDU, a 69-year-old man was killed when his home was destroyed in a fire on Sunday. The charred remains of Yaad @ Abd Saad Enggok were found in his home following the 8.30pm fire.

Bomba operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said in a statement that firemen received the distress call at about 8.37pmbut were only able to reach the scene at about 10.49pm due to the distance from the nearest fire station and the difficult terrain.

Yaad’s remains have been collected and sent to the hospital. It is learnt that the victim was alone at home when the fire broke out.
