Two Separate Fire Incidences In Papar Within Nine Hours Sees Two Killed

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were killed in two separate fires in the district here within nine hours of each incident; the first Sunday night at about 8.30pm at Kampung Seladan.

And early this morning, another man was also burnt to death in a fire which razed his house at Kampung Pedawan.

The charred remains of Mark Jamaing, 36, were found in the kitchen area in the incident that broke out before 4.30am.

Dunstan Peter, the district Fire and Rescue Department chief said the fire had destroyed 80 per cent of the house when the Bomba team of eight personnel team arrived at the scene.

“There was nothing much we could do except to bring the fire under control and after the fire was doused, we found the remains of one of the occupants,” he said.

Apart from the house, a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive was also destroyed.

In the Kampung Seladan incident, Awang Ismail Pengeran Sarifudin, 80, was burned to death while his son, Awang Mumin, 56, suffered injuries on his legs.

Dunstan said they are still investigating the cause of both the fires.
