Chandra in a statement said police received a call at 3.41pm that three boys had gone missing while swimming in the river.

He said one of the boys had disappeared under water and the two others went to his aid. However, all three were dragged under.

Family members, friends and curious on-lookers gather to watch rescuers combing the river.

A member of the public who saw the incident went to their rescue but was unable to find them. He then called up the police as well as the Fire and Rescue Department.

Rescuers found the boys close to where they had disappeared, and according to Chandra, all were unconscious when they were pulled out.
