KUCHING: Sarawak DAP, Sarawak PKR and Parti Amanah Negara Negeri Sarawak (Amanah Sarawak) today announced the formation of a coalition called the “Pakatan Harapan Sarawak” in preparation for the coming 14th General Elections(GE14).
Their spokesman Chong Chieng Jen who is Sarawak DAP chairman said they had also concluded the seat allocation negotiation.
“Basically, the agreement is that for the GE14, the respective parties will contest the parliamentary seats previously contested by each of them in the GE13.
“Amanah will get those seats contested by PAS,” he said at a joint press conference here Sunday.
Present were PKR Sarawak Chairman Baru Bian and Amanah Sarawak chairman Fidzuan Zaidi.
“There may be some variations but that will be subject to mutual agreement of the parties involved.
“If there is no consensus, we will fall back to the arrangement that the party which contested in that particular seat in GE13 will defend it in the GE 14,” Chong said.
Chong who is Bandar Kuching member of parliament and Kota Sentosa state assemblyman added the three parties had also set up a secretariat consisting of two representatives from each party.
He said the secretariat would co-ordinate activities and co-operation among them and would be responsible for the drafting of the Pakatan Harapan Sarawak joint manifesto for the coming GE14.
Chong said the coalition would likely contest in all 31 parliamentary seats.
Baru meanwhile said he would not likely be a candidate in the coming election but added that PKR Sarawak was not short of qualified candidates.
He also called on Sarawakians to give the coalition a chance as the alternative to the current Barisan Nasional government.
