KOTA KINABALU: A teenager who went missing following a boat collision in waters off Tambisan on Wednesday night has been found dead.

The body of Abu Sabri Jalani, 18, was found about 50 metres off the Tambisan Darat school jetty at about 1.30pm Friday, which is also quite near where the incident took place.

Khatizah Rahaban, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief in a statement said Abu’s lifeless body was discovered floating at sea by villagers involved in the search.

The body has been sent to the Sandakan district hospital for a post-mortem.

Abu was travelling to Tambisan Darat in a boat with his 16-year-old brother Asraf and their friend, 11-year-old Mohamad Yazer, when they hit another vessel along the way.

The man in the other vessel Zamazi Zakaria, 31, escaped unhurt but Asraf and Mohamad were injured while Abu went missing.

Commander Mohd Khairulanuar Abdul Majid, the deputy director of operations Sandakan, of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said Zamazi escaped injuries but Mohamad Yazer and Asraf were hurt.

“Zamazi took the injured boys to the hospital before alerting the authorities about the missing teenager,” he said in a statement Thursday.
