DRIVER KILLED AS FERTILISER-LADEN TRUCK CRASHES GOING DOWNHILL IN PAITAN

KOTA KINABALU: A lorry driver was killed and two passengers were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off a slope near Bukit Ular, off Paitan, Beluran, early Thursday.

Ahmad Nongkang @ Mado, 59, died after he was pinned to his seat in the accident at about 7.30am.

The other two passengers, Jeprii Azis, 35 and Rosli Ruma, 34, sustained broken legs.

Kinabatangan fire and rescue operations chief Rosemidian Majid said Ahmad was believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road before landing on its side.

KOTA KINABALU: A 15-year-old boy lost two fingers while trying to retrieve his wallet that had fallen into a drain here.

The boy was walking home from school with a friend when his wallet fell into a drain covered with metal bars.

It is learnt that the boy had asked his friend to hold up the metal cover while he tried to retrieve his wallet when suddenly, the cover fell and crushed his fingers.

His index and little fingers were cut off following the incident.

State Fire and Rescue Department acting supervisor Mohd Zulfadli Mohd Usman said the
boy had already been taken to the hospital when they arrived.

“Our men picked up the two severed fingers from the drain and sent it to the hospital,” he said.

It is learnt that the fingers could not be reattached.

10-YEAR OLD BOY KILLED AFTER SPEEDBOATS CRASH NEAR SEMPORNA JETTY

Rescuers with the help of local boatmen scour the waters of Semporna town in search of the missing boy.

SEMPORNA: A 10-year-old boy drowned after he was thrown out of a speedboat with three others when they crashed into a tourist vessel in Semporna.

Muhammad Arhidar Abdullah, 10, and three others – speedboat skipper Jaafar Bakial, 41, Juliman Rasis, 24, and Mohamad Rijal Rano, 12 – were heading out from the Semporna jetty while the other vessel, with 10 Chinese tourists on board, was returning from the Mataking island when the crash occurred at about 3.10pm Wednesday.

Semporna police chief Supt Peter Umbuas said Arhidar and the others were thrown out of their speedboat in the crash.

“Jaafar, Juliman and Rijal were rescued by the crew from the tourist boat,” he said.

Arhidar was found several hours after the incident and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Supt Peter said according to the skipper of the tourist boat, he did not see the speedboat heading his way because he was blinded by the sun’s rays.

The skipper of the tourist boat has been detained for four days to facilitate investigations.
