Indian National Buried Alive At Labuk Road Construction Site, Another Injured

SANDAKAN: A foreign worker was killed and his fellow countryman injured when a cave-in occurred at a construction site at Mile 20, Jalan Labuk here Tuesday evening.

The two men believed to be Nepalese wrokers from India were working at the site of a power transmission facility when the incident happened at about 4pm.

District Fire and Rescue chief Anddre Andrew said the deceased Sona Mahto, 32, was buried alive in the seven-foot deep hole, when the wall of the hole collapsed.

It was learnt that a steel plate had also fallen on him during the incident.

“Sona’s body was already taken out from the rubble when firemen arrived at 5.06pm.

“The other workers had used excavators and other tools to rescue the victim,” he said in a statement, adding the body had been sent to hospital for post-mortem.

The other man Tipnarayan Mahto, 31, escaped with minor injuries and was receiving treatment at the hospital.
