KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested three men suspected to be involved in a series of theft of car spare tyres around the city.
City police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the suspects, aged 33 up to 40 years, were detained in three separate raids in Tuaran.
“Following a report on a spare tyre theft involving a four-wheel drive vehicle last Thursday in Jalan Kota Kinabalu Lama, police conducted investigations and arrested a man in Berunggis Road, Tuaran, about 11.10am Friday.
“Following investigation on the suspect, we managed to detain another man, the first suspect’s accomplice, at Taman Sri Rugading, Tuaran, about 20 minutes later,” he said in a statement Saturday.
He said following the arrests of two suspects, police later detained the third man in Kampung Marabahai Tambalang, Tuaran, at about 12.05am Saturday who was believed to be involved in the case as a buyer of the stolen goods and the seizure of two modified iron rods believed to have been used in the theft.
Chandra said after further investigation, the first and second suspects confessed to their involvement in spare tyre thefts where the stolen items were sold to the third suspect, and the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
